Does the modern curriculum neglect the classics?
“The learning of Greek and Latin, I am told, is going into disuse in Europe. I know not what their manners and occupations may call for: but it would be very ill-judged of us to follow their example in this instance.”
–Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia 1781-1787

Andy Penland says:
A classical education is still of immense value to us in the 21st century since, not only does it provide us with a knowledge of the languages and civilizations that serve as the basis of our own, but more importantly, it provides us with templates of possible human experience and behavior with well over a millennium and a half of history and literature.
